Instant Bank Payment Is Now Live: Pay Straight From Your Bank, With Card-Like Speed

By Zoooom TeamJune 3, 20265 min read

We just turned on a second checkout option for Zoooom buyers. It feels identical to a credit card and clears just as fast — but the money comes straight out of your bank account, so you don’t have to put a five-figure car purchase on plastic. It’s called Instant Bank Payment via Stripe Link, and for a lot of buyers it’s the cleanest way to pay.

Why paying by card isn’t always ideal for a car

Credit cards are great for $50 dinners and $400 sneakers. On a $25,000 used car, a few things get in the way: most cards have a credit limit below the purchase price, a charge that size wrecks your utilization for the month, and on Zoooom card payments are capped at $25,000 per transaction. None of that is a problem when you pay straight from your bank.

The catch with traditional bank transfers (ACH) is speed and certainty: they take 3–5 business days to settle and can bounce in that window. Sellers either wait (bad for the deal) or release the car early (bad for the seller). Instant Bank Payment fixes exactly that.

So what is Stripe Link?

Link is Stripe’s consumer wallet. If you’ve ever paid on a site powered by Stripe and seen “Save your info with Link for next time,” that’s it. Your payment methods (cards and bank accounts) get saved once, and any other Stripe-powered checkout recognizes them.

When Link is funded by a bank account, you get to pay from that account with the speed of a card. Stripe authorizes the payment instantly and guarantees the funds — so the seller gets card-rail certainty without a card. That’s the magic word: guaranteed. Bank-rail convenience, no 3–5 day wait, no bounce risk in the middle of a deal.

Same rate as a card — the win is certainty, not a discount

To be clear about cost: Instant Bank Payment via Link is processed at Stripe’s standard 2.9% + $0.30 — the same rate as a card. (That processing fee is paid by the seller, not added to your charge; as a buyer you pay the listing price plus Zoooom’s flat $100 fee, no matter which method you pick.) So this isn’t about saving money on fees. It’s about paying for a big-ticket item the way that actually fits a car: from your bank, instantly, with guaranteed funds.

Same car, three checkout methods (on a $25,000 car)

MethodBuyer paysSeller receives
Credit / Debit Card$25,100.00$24,271.80
Instant Bank Payment (Link)$25,100.00$24,271.80
Bank wire$25,100.00$25,000.00

Card and Instant Bank Payment cost exactly the same (2.9% + $0.30, paid by the seller). If the goal is the lowest seller fee, that’s bank wire — Zoooom covers the wire fee, so the seller nets the full price. The buyer always pays listing + $100, whichever method they choose.

When Instant Bank Payment is the right call

  • The car is above the $25,000 card limit. Card charges are capped at $25,000 on Zoooom; Instant Bank Payment isn’t, so it’s the natural choice for pricier vehicles (and so is bank wire).
  • You don’t want a five-figure charge on a credit card. No hit to your utilization, no bumping against your credit limit, no carrying a balance.
  • It’s the same UX. Setting up Link takes 30 seconds the first time. After that it’s one tap — no different from saving a card — with instant, guaranteed settlement.

When to use a credit card instead

  • You’re chasing rewards or a sign-up bonus. Because Zoooom adds no surcharge for paying by card, card rewards are pure upside — up to the $25,000 card limit. Hitting a spend threshold for a big points bonus can be worth far more than any fee math.
  • You want the extra card dispute layer. Card chargebacks are a separate recourse on top of Zoooom’s built-in dispute process. For a high-value purchase from a new seller, that redundancy has value.
  • You’d rather not link a bank account. Totally valid — Instant Bank Payment is opt-in.

How to use it

Nothing changes about the flow until checkout. Browse the marketplace, message the seller, negotiate a price, schedule an in-person meeting, complete the title inspection. At the Pay step inside the Zoooom app, you’ll see Card and Instant Bank Payment side by side. Pick Instant Bank Payment, sign in to Link (or sign up — it takes 30 seconds), and you’re done.

From the seller’s side, everything looks the same as a card payment: funds clear to their Stripe balance and pay out to their bank, with the standard processing fee deducted.

What’s next

Instant Bank Payment is a step toward the lower-fee future of car payments. Real-time bank payments (RTP and FedNow) drop processing fees to near zero — pennies per transaction. Stripe is rolling those out to marketplaces incrementally, and Zoooom will enable them the moment they’re available. Klarna for split installments is also on the roadmap for buyers who want pay-over-time on lower-value vehicles.
