Most online marketplaces fight cash deals. They route everything through their checkout, take a percentage cut, and let off-platform payments dangle as a TOS violation. We picked the opposite stance. Cash has been the default for private-party car sales for fifty years

Drive any city in America on a Saturday morning and someone is meeting a stranger at a Starbucks parking lot with a stack of bills and a signed title. That’s how peer-to-peer cars have moved for half a century, and it works for a reason: in-person, irrevocable, no settlement risk, no chargebacks.

What doesn’t work is the safety story around it. Sellers worry about counterfeit bills and getting robbed during the meet. Buyers worry about wiring money to a fake account or showing up to find no car, no seller, no recourse. The whole industry of “meet at the police station” advice exists because the underlying payment is fine; it’s the strangers part that’s the problem.

What Zoooom fixes (without forcing you into our payments rail)

Cash deals on Zoooom give you everything except the money movement:

• Verified identity on both sides. Driver’s license capture plus live selfie face-match before either party can book a meet.
• Verified vehicle ownership. The seller’s registration is OCR’d, name-matched to their DL, and VIN-checked against the listing.

• Both parties trust each other enough to do the handoff without an intermediary holding funds. Verified identity on Zoooom does most of the heavy lifting here.
• Speed matters. Cash settles instantly. No two-business-day card hold, no settlement risk window.

When cash doesn’t make sense

• Long-distance deals. If you can’t physically meet, you can’t do cash. Use Card or Instant Bank Payment.
• Buyer wants credit-card rewards or a sign-up bonus. Push the car price up to a card, eat the seller’s fee or split it informally.
• $25,000+ amounts where physical cash is impractical. Cashier’s checks have their own risks; Instant Bank Payment is usually the better choice at this size.
• Either party feels unsafe. We always recommend meeting in public, well-lit places. Many police stations now have designated “internet transaction” zones in their parking lots specifically for this. Use them.

Why we don’t penalize the cash path

A lot of marketplaces would tell you cash is “against terms.” They mean it — they want every transaction through their payment processor to capture revenue. We don’t. Our business model is the $100 flat fee on Stripe-processed transactions. When you use cash, we earn $0, but we also spent $0 on processing infrastructure for your specific deal. The math works.

What matters is that buyers and sellers find each other on Zoooom, verify each other on Zoooom, and complete the deal safely. That’s the product. If cash is the right rail for your specific deal, use it.
